Salary: £28,500 – £33,000

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (12 month contract)

What we do
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People transform the lives of deaf people by the provision of a hearing dog. We train more than 200 dogs per year for deaf adults and children.

Accounting for 60% of the workforce, comprising of 100 employees and nearly 600 full time volunteers, the operations department is responsible for the breeding (dog supply), training and healthcare of up to 450 dogs in training.

What you will be doing
The role of the Canine Healthcare Manager is to support the Canine Healthcare team to produce a sustainable number of hearing dog puppies to become future life changers.

Overseeing a team of Canine Healthcare Advisors, their role is to support the delivery of high-quality healthcare for all dogs in the Operations department during their training journey, ensuring dogs are in optimal condition for their working roles.

What you will need to succeed

• Motivate, supervise and develop a diverse range of staff. Able to problem solve and inspire a can-do attitude in those around them
• Gather and record a wide range of written and numerical information used for financial, statistical and planning purposes. Provide timely and accurate management information
• Knowledge and understanding of budgeting and an ability to keep accurate financial records in order to ensure all activity is cost-effective
• Work successfully and diplomatically with staff at all levels of the Charity, volunteers and recipients, and external organisations, recognising the different perspectives involved. Awareness of the needs of lipreaders and able to adapt communication appropriately when required
• Manage, prioritise and deliver a range of demands on both a day-to-day and long-term basis. Have a good appreciation of strategic formulation and implementation through achievable operational planning
• Inform and involve a wide range of people as individuals, in groups and at departmental level
• IT competency is essential. Communicate a compelling and inspired vision to staff and volunteers
• Knowledge of canine health issues requiring veterinary intervention. VN qualification highly desirable
• Experience of supervising and developing team
