ADUK doesn’t train or provide assistance dogs so we’re not able to offer volunteering opportunities, student placements, work experience or job opportunities. But many of our member organisations do offer these and you can find more information in this section.
In the UK there is no set route to becoming an assistance dog trainer, and there are no specific qualifications.
The role of dog trainer is hugely diverse and may include working with recipients, members of the public, staff and volunteers as well as dogs. Therefore, the best thing to do is to get a good grounding in positive training techniques and if possible, carry out work experience in a range of different areas.
At ADUK we don’t keep or train assistance dogs so we cannot provide specific information as each of our members employs their own staff and has their own recruitment and training processes and procedures.

Lots of our members work with volunteers and offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities ranging from puppy foster carers and puppy socialisers to helping out with fundraising or events.

Some of our members can sometimes offer student placements or work experience opportunities. ADUK can’t provide these opportunities and we can’t advise on what our members might be able to offer.
