Here at ADUK we don’t train or provide dogs as this is done by our member organisations. Therefore if you are interested in getting an assistance dog or finding out more going direct to our members is the best thing to do.
We have a number of members who provide autism assistance dogs for younger children only and others who have no age limit.
These are Autism Dogs and Dogs for Autism (no age limit), and Dogs for Good and Support Dogs (younger children) – their details can be found on our member page Find an Assistance Dog Charity – ADUK (assistancedogs.org.uk) They will sometimes work to train dogs to support other conditions also alongside autism.
ADUK currently has only one small member organisation, Darwin Dogs, that supports people to train their own pet dog as an autism assistance dog and they have very limited capacity. However, Dogs for Good do run a Family Dog Service that gives advice and support to help families with an autistic child to get the most out of their relationship with their pet dog. Find out more about the Family Dog Service.
ADUK is working with a range of organisations that are working towards the same accreditation that our members have and several of them train autism assistance dogs.
You can find out more about ADUK candidates by visiting our candidate page.
There may be other organisations who are able to help but we unfortunately we cannot recommend anyone outside of our membership.
